Dr. Victor Dzau

Victor Dzau

Dr. Victor Dzau is an acclaimed physician-scientist, a pioneer of gene therapy for vascular disease, and a respected university administrator.  Currently, he is chancellor for health affairs at Duke University, president and CEO of the Duke University Health System, and the James B. Duke Professor of Medicine.

Previously, Dzau has served as chairman of the department of medicine at the Harvard Medical School at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was physician in chief and director of research.  He was also chairman of the department of medicine at Stanford University, member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and chairman of the cardiovascular disease advisory committee for the National Institutes of Health.

Dzau received his MD from McGill University and his postgraduate from Harvard Medical School.  His work has been recognized internationally and he has received numerous awards, including the Association of Professors of Medicine’s Robert H. Williams, MD, Distinguished Chair of Medicine Award, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine Medal, and the Gustav Nylin Medal awarded by the Swedish Royal College of Medicine.
