Margaret O. MacMillan

Margaret MacMillan

Margaret O. MacMillan is one of the most respected and best-selling historians of our time. Her writings include Women of the Raj, Nixon in China, and the multiple-award-winning Paris 1919.  The latter won the Duff Cooper Prize, the Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction, the Hessell-Titlman Prize for History, the Silver Medal for the Arthur Ross Book Award of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Governor-General's prize for non-fiction, and was a New York Times Editors’ Choice.

A former provost of Trinity College and professor of history at the University of Toronto,  MacMillan is currently a professor at the University of Oxford, where she is also warden of St. Antony's College.  Previously, she was chair of the department of history at Ryerson University and editor of the International Journal. She also served on numerous boards, including the Canadian Institute for International Affairs, the Atlantic Council of Canada, and the Ontario Heritage Foundation.

MacMillan is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, a senior fellow of Massey College, University of Toronto, and is the recipient of honorary degrees from the University of King's College, the Royal Military College, and Ryerson University.

She was named Officer of the Order of Canada in 2006.
